How to empty your mailboxes on a cpanel host

A fast way to empty your email accounts on a cPanel hosting using the Horde webmail client.

Have tested this on 8000+ emails - it works fine - the delete process can take some time and the browser may freeze .. but it does work.

Remember .. if important download your mail first to outlook or Thunderbird and make sure it is accessable even with the internet dis-connected.. Gone is gone!!

Multilingual Search Engine Optimisation 2

Advice for multilingual SEO. Part 2

Finding the keywords for all the markets.

There are many resources in English on the web to help us find relevant keywords for our web sites. And of course if English is our mother language we're already halfway there and our intuition can then be checked against search engine reality.
But when it comes to available tools and methods in non English languages we are not so well off.

Multilingual Search Engine Optimisation 1

Consider all the possibilities.

Living as I do on the conjunction of three countries, that is Belgium, Holland and Germany, can make search engine optimisation (SEO) quite a challenge. Just in the surrounding area of the village I work from are four spoken languages so if you extrapolate that out to every possible combination of search terms, browser settings and computer language settings then you begin to see the scale of the problem.

Google's new search translator

I came across this new beta tool from Google last week. I haven't tested it extensively but on first appraisal it seems to do what it says on the box.

The idea is you type in your search term, tell Google what language its in and what language you want to search in. It then translates the search term and dishes up the results, translated on the left hand side and original on the right.

Resources for html numeric character reference (&#number;) unicode notation

I was having a look around for an easy way to find the numeric character reference codes "&#number;" html notation and found a number of really good resources.

I know you can simply type the character if you have a European keyboard as so - ? ? ? - etc but this will not validate and can cause big problems on computers using a different character set. This can lead to the user seeing Li?ge or an even stranger rendering.

Adsense Graphics Trouble Shooting

I liked the look of the borders to put around the adsense boxes that I found on Big Sensation, its a free download.

Just download the zip file, unpack and cut-n-paste the html to your template. You need to surround your adsense script with the table code. Its fairly obvious when you see the html. Upload the 5 graphics needed (don't miss the spacer.gif) and double check the paths to the graphics, I used fully qualified url's to make it unbreakable.

Useful SEO forums

Before starting this blog I had assumed that all and any information I needed for multilingual site building and optimising would be easily Googled. Alas no, there is really a dearth of info in English and a lot of it is contradictory even within the forum posts.

In this post I'll list what forums I have found useful but again I stress that there just isn't a lot of information out there.

"Send to Blogger" without the Google Toolbar

I use as my default browser K-Ninja, a very minimalistic browser based on the Gecko engine, the same as Firefox. There's a K-Ninja wiki here.

K-Ninja Development is now officially wrapped up as of the 12th March 2008
