Packt Publishing's Joomla! 1.5 JavaScript jQuery by Jose Argudo Blanco is much more than the title suggests! It gives a very good grounding in jQuery modules & plugins available, building your own Joomla 1.5 modules and components and intergrating various jQuery scripts and plugins into your Joomla 1.5 mods and components. This book starts with the basics of handling images in the Joomla 1.5 enviroment via the Media Manager, in content & modules and directly in the template. It then goes on to discuss various existing jQuery based modules and plugins such as image rotators, popups and image galleries. A very interesting next section dicusses javascript conflicts and how to solve them, something that will be very useful to a lot of readers. He discusses a plugin that I hadn't heard of called SCjQuery which goea a long way to detecting and solving javascript conflicts. From chapter 6 onward the real discussion of implementing your own jQuery coding efforts starts. 3 examples of jQuery plugins are given with full information on how to load and use them. At chapter 7 starts the building of your own bespoke module "Send a Question". The most interesting part is is implementing the jQuery AJAX calls and validation, so much simpler using the jQuery libraries. You can see this chapter here on my site at "The basics of Joomla Module Creation". Chapter 8 & 9 go on to build a complete Joomla 1.5 component starting from the basics of file structure and database tables creation right through to polishing it up by integrating jQuery plugins and scripts. Chapter 10 discusses various javascript trouble shooting techniques including using Firebug. This book is not just about jQuery, it gives a very good grounding in all things Joomla coding so it is almost an "all-in-one" Joomla coders handbook. Highly recommended! Get it from Packt Publishing who have a huge range of specialist IT and Technology publications. The direct link is Joomla! 1.5 JavaScript jQuery Enjoy. |
