While starting out a while back on my first 4 language web site I never realised just how complicated it would be! The wide variety of tools and advice available to English language web designers are sorely lacking when it comes to multilingual design. But first a bit about me and our company... We're based in East Belgium which is one of the more multicultural and multilingual parts of Europe, close to 3 borders and a complete jumble of linguistic areas. Our village Montzen is officially French speaking, the German speaking canton starts on the southern edge of the town and the Dutch area starts 20 minutes from here. The "old locals" speak their own dialect "platt" or more officially "Limburgish". So you can see a multilingual approach is needed in all areas including web design. So what I'll try and do with this blog is post as much useful information that I come across as I'm developing and SEOing websites.
