Packt Publishing's Magento: Beginner's Guide by William Rice is a must for anyone trying the open-source e-Commerce solution.
Even for experienced web builders and programmers this book is needed to understand the configuration methods of this on-line store software .

Magento: Beginner's Guide As with any unfamiliar software, no matter how experienced you are, you need a good basic "how to" to ease the introduction. This book provides just that.
The layout is the standard step by step plus a section at the end of the book refreshing all the stages in a compact format so it's ideal as a quick reference source.
All the necessary steps are covered from installation to final configuration.
As this is a beginners guide there is nothing on adapting code or customising templates etc.

One part I found particularly helpful and what is often lacking in books of this type is a full discussion of each payment method, not just how to configure each one, but the advantages and disadvantages of each gateway.
This allows the reader to begin to make a choice of which payment method is appropriate for their business model.

For those not familiar with Magento it is obviously a real alternative to the Joomla - VirtueMart duopoly, especially for shopping sites that don't need the extensive CMS capabilities of Joomla.

Get it from Packt Publishing who have a huge range of specialist IT and Technology publications.
