Have seen a few times the request for the VirtueMart currency to be set by the chosen language. After a fair amount of trial and error I've finally got this to work. 
With VirtueMart is is quite straight forward to have a fully working multi-lingual shop. See this article on how to integrate Joomfish 2.0. with VirtueMart 1.1 --> Joomla 1.5, VirtueMart 1.1 & Joomfish 2.0
But it would also be nice in some cases to have the currency follow the language selection, for example a shop selling in the UK and France would choose the vendor currency automatically (UK Pounds or Euros ) depending on the language chosen. The hack basically uses the Joomfish cookie to tell the VirtueMart core which language is chosen and therefore which currency to display. The advantage of this is that the Joomfish cookie is available throughout the browse, cart and checkout sessions and if the user changes language at any point during the transaction, the currency changes with it. I found, after a lot of experimentation, that this was not case for the other possible parameters product_currency and the url lang= parameter. If the VirtueMart currency module is used this can also over-ride the currency at any time.
