We needed the ability to show items from particular SOBI2 Categories at the bottom of articles. Here is the result, the SOBI2 Show Category Contents Module.
Now you can show any SOBI2 Category exactly where you want and configure which fields are displayed and style the display as you want it.

Install the module in the normal Joomla way.

Version 1.1
Now the items can be ordered by date, id or hits, ascending or descending.
Title label can be chosen.
Small bug fix for undeclared variables.

You can make multiple copies of the module and even have more than one module on the same page with different styling for each module.
See an example of multiple SOBI2 Show Category Contents modules.

You can choose exactly which SOBI2 fields are displayed, whether their labels are shown and add html to the labels.
A complete list of possibilities is listed below.

  • Module class
  • Number of items to display
  • Display items by date, order or hits
  • Display items ascending or descending
  • SOBI2 Category
  • Itemid for the url links
  • Show Item Title
  • Choose Item Title
  • Show Item Label
  • Title length
  • Show 3 dots after title shortening
  • Show 3 additional fields
  • Show additional fields labels
  • Add html to the labels,
    , : etc
  • Configure the length of the texts
  • Add 3 dots if shortened
  • Show the icon image
  • Show the main image
  • Individual css for each module
  • Individual layout for each module
  • Images linked to Vcards
  • Url parameter to make a Read More etc.


Most of the parameters are self-explanatory only the CSS and Template need a bit further information.

The CSS example given shows you what is needed, the base class of the module is sobi2show_cat plus whatever module class suffix you choose to give it.
You don't need to add the suffix to the class in the text box, this is handled automatically.
The icon and the image have the classes sobiicon and sobiimage respectively.
The css needed is similar to this: 
.sobi2show_cat {height:220px;border-bottom:1px solid #666;} 
.sobi2show_cat h4 {margin:0;} 
.sobi2show_cat .sobiicon{margin:0 20px 20px 0;} 
.sobi2show_cat .sobiimage{margin:0 0 0 20px;}

The template is a little more complicated. You can choose to use a standard layout by choosing NOT to use the template.It's Title at the top, icon to the left, image to the right and the texts in-between.

Otherwise you can use the template interface provided.
This uses html and the required placeholders, an example is below.

Hi,
Yes indeed, it's just a module so you can show any category anywhere.
If you wanted to automate this (if you have a lot of categories) then some further coding would be required.

Yes thats true. But if:

Here's my problem(just an example). I'm using SOBI2 to list my partners. I've got partners(categories) from Restaurants, Cinemas, Cafés. I've got menu items: Main Page, Date, Movies. I wanna list randomly with this module on my Frontpage(Main Page) from all SOBI2 items. On Date menuitem wanna list from Restaurants and Cafés, and on Movie menuitem just wanna list randomly from Cinemas' partners.

Hope u catched what I'm thinking on...

But the whole point of the module is to show items from a category that is related to the page your on.
If you just want to show individual items there must be a SOBI module available for that.
If you have particular items you want to show then just make a new cat, put the items in there and then display it...

At the moment they are selected by most recent descending but I could easily code a backend parameter for this if required.
